Every element in Za'Kirah's new bedroom has a meaning behind it. At just 4 years old, this sweet girl could tell you exactly why flowers mean so much to her. She can describe the calming feeling she has when she takes baths. She has a story for every stuffed animal in her canopy. By combining all of these significant elements in her bedroom, we hope that Za'Kirah will have a more positive grieving process.
One project at a time, we hope to start a conversation about childhood grief.
Za'Kirah's project was divided into two volunteer days. Chicago's Brilliant Earth team spent the first day creating floral decorations and finding beautiful accessories to build the perfect bedroom. On the second day, we welcomed local youth to help refurbish furniture. We also had a special guest appearance from LaRoyce Hawkins, NBC's Chicago PD star. We had a wonderful time with our volunteers and we're forever grateful for their time and talents!
Za'Kirah is a 4 year old girl grieving the loss of her mother, Britney, to sickle cell anemia. Za'Kirah currently lives with her grandmother, aunt and uncle. We could not be more excited and honored to help this sweet girl as she adjusts to her new life without her mom.
Za'Kirah LOVES to play in the bathtub for hours with her toys and remembers these long bath times with her mom. We can't wait to see what this creative, bright, strong young lady will create!
Right now Za'Kirah is sharing a bedroom with her aunt but will be getting her own bedroom at the start of the year. This new room is going to be the perfect space for Za'Kirah to design into her own.
